Going to university is not only about studying for your degree.

It might be your first time living away from your family and home comforts – but it’s also the perfect opportunity for you to make lifelong friends and try new societies.

If you’re staying at our student accommodation in Bolton, you needn’t worry about socialising with like-minded students. Our communal building (The Hub) has lots of board games, a PS5, Cinema room and Pool table. On top of this, we regularly hold social events for those staying in our student accommodation, making it easier for you to get to know your flatmates better. For example, on the last Wednesday of every month, we have a breakfast club in the common room – starting from 8.30am until 11am. If you’re in a hurry, you can simply grab something and go. But if you have a little more time on your hands, why not take a seat and enjoy a hearty brekkie and a natter?

As well as attending the events organised by Orlando Village, we highly recommend joining a club or one of the societies at the university. Here’s why.

  • Societies Allow You to Take a break

Whether it be watching a movie in the comfort of your student accommodation cinema room – surrounded by your flatmates – or attending football or rugby practice after a stressful day at uni, it’s good to take your mind off assignments and exams, even if it’s just for an hour or two each night. Participating in social events allows you to recharge your batteries, ready for another busy day of studying tomorrow.

Did you know that as a resident at Orlando Village Student Accommodation Bolton you can book exclusive use of the cinema room, which has all Sky Movies, Netflix, Disney plus and more on! Want to book your spot for a movie night then get in touch here…  Book the cinema room HERE

  • Help To Build relationships

Sometimes, the best moments are the unplanned ones. And if that means throwing yourself in at the deep end, and signing up to a new club or one of the societies at Freshers Fair, then so be it!

Putting your name down and getting involved in social events on campus gives you a chance to meet people with common interests. After speaking with them for a few minutes, you may discover that you support the same sports team or you share the same beliefs. There’s also a strong chance that you’re all in the same boat – learning to live independently for the first time.

Believe it or not, the people you meet at uni and student accommodation could become your closest friends, even after you’ve finished your degree.

  • Support To Practice time management

Juggling your lectures and revision sessions – as well as your chosen societies – can be difficult. But it helps if you sit down and plan your time wisely.

Joining extracurricular activities and attending social events demonstrates that you have excellent time management and organisational skills. Such skills come in handy in everyday life but will also look great on your CV – helping you to be more employable in the future.

  • Societies Allow You to Have fun

Societies are supposed to be enjoyable – otherwise, why would anyone join them?

Joining your university’s sports team or taking on the role of vice president or social secretary will help to improve your prospects after graduation. The chances are you’ll make memories that last a lifetime too!

Aside from creating the perfect work and play balance, they can also alleviate stress – allowing you to feel more relaxed after a long and tiring day at uni.
