When you go to university for the first time, there’ll be loads of opportunities for you to meet new people, visit new places, and try new things.

Here at Orlando Village, we provide some of the best student accommodation Bolton has to offer, and are the only accommodation provider to be approved and recommended by the University of Bolton.

Our halls are in a prime location, just a short walk to campus and the town center. You’ll find plenty of bars, pubs, and clubs nearby. Perfect for a pint after lectures, a G&T in a cozy bar, or a night out in Bolton’s vibrant clubs.

While it’s exciting to explore, stay safe—especially in new surroundings or when you’re out alone at night.

Here are five safety tips to enjoy university life while staying safe.

Staying safe on a night out

1.    Safety in numbers

Go out in a group of at least three. Stick together and look out for each other. Ensure nobody leaves alone.

2.    Never leave your drink

Never leave your drink unattended. Avoid accepting drinks from strangers, and always keep an eye on yours. If you must leave it, ask a friend to watch it until you return.

3.    Have a route home planned

Though it’s likely to be the last thing on your mind, always plan how you are going to get back to your student accommodation in Bolton at the end of the night.

Depending on the time, you might ask someone you trust to give you a lift or hop on the bus. If travelling by bus, it’s best if you sit on the lower deck – near the door and within sight of the driver, should there be any issues. Alternatively, you could pre-book a taxi or Uber to transport you and your mates back to your digs safely.

4.    Save local taxi numbers

After being stood on your feet all night – queueing to get into venues and dancing – there is nothing more frustrating than trying to hail a cab on the street when you haven’t pre-booked a taxi.

Never jump in an unlicensed taxi. Instead, before you go on a night out, make sure you have the number of a local taxi firm saved in your phone. This way, when you’re ready to head home, you can call for a cab without having to flag one down. Just make sure you have enough battery on your phone.

5.    Save the out of hours number for Orlando Village

When you’re out in town or anywhere else, it’s essential to keep a close eye on your belongings—bag, keys, phone, wallet, and more. The last thing you want is to return to your student accommodation and realize your keys are missing.

Keep your bag in front of you at all times, avoid storing valuables in your back pocket, and ensure any zips are closed. If you’re staying at our student accommodation in Bolton, save our out-of-hours number—07919 573 529—in case you lose your keys on a night out, so you won’t need to disturb other tenants.
