Are you and your housemates hosting a Halloween party? Want to make your student accommodation in Bolton look spooktacular?
Orlando Village is the only student accommodation provider approved and recommended by the University of Bolton. When you secure a place with us, you’ll benefit from a brilliant room with a single or ¾ bed, wardrobe, desk, and sink. You’ll also have access to ‘The Hub’, where you’ll find a TV, pool table, vending machines, and comfy seating. Perfect for socialising.
Although we provide the basic amenities and more, there are lots of ways you can decorate your digs for the spooky season – many of which are super simple and super creepy. And the best bit is, they won’t take a massive bite out of your budget.
Here are some of our favourite spooky decoration ideas for…
· The front door and windows
A few creepy touches to the front door and windows at your student accommodation will instantly make it look more like a haunted house.
Try placing a ghost doormat at the entrance, leave a carved pumpkin (or three) on the doorstep, or hang a wreath covered in bats or spiders on the door. To make the place look abandoned, you could stick some light wooden beams over the windows to give the illusion that they’re boarded up.
· The corridor
Feeling creative? Why not cut out some black spiders and attach them to the walls in the corridor? All you need are a few sheets of paper, a pair of scissors, and some command strips.
Fake skulls are another creepy addition. These are available in most supermarkets, as well as cheaper stores such as B&M, which is less than a 10-minute walk from our student accommodation in Bolton, and Home Bargains on the Bolton Shopping Park on Trinity Street.
For health and safety reasons, avoid covering fire alarms and fire escapes.
· The ceiling
Though an area most people forget about, hanging decorations from the ceilings can really add to the scary ambience at Halloween.
You could buy some orange balloons, paint scary faces on them using a black Sharpie, and dangle them from the roof. Hanging bat decorations and spider webs from the ceiling can also look great.
Perhaps you and your housemates could have a go at making your own hovering ghosts. Just cut some holes into an old white sheet for eyes, throw it over a beach ball, and attach it to the ceiling with string.
· The communal area
Want to spook up your kitchen on October 31st? From themed tumblers to printed tea towels and carved pumpkins, the options are limitless.
At Orlando Village, all rooms are offered on a self-catering basis with a communal kitchen. Therefore, it’s a good idea to discuss your ideas with your housemates, and see if they have any suggestions of their own, before you go all out.
If you’re a master in the kitchen, perhaps you could make some Halloween-themed treats – we’re talking ghost cookies that are scary yet cute, toffee apples that are deliciously sweet and sticky, or doughnuts that are decorated like vampires.
· Your room
If you’re going to the effort of decorating your halls of residence, you might as well adorn your room, too!
Whilst all of the above ideas will work well in your dorm, there are a few other things that will inevitably set the eerie ambience for Halloween – including fairy lights, skeleton decorations, and specimen jars.
Nothing screams Halloween more than black duvet covers and orange throws. And don’t forget to creep up the music! You could create a playlist with soundtracks from scary films, such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, and The Exorcist.
