10 Social Media Accounts Every Student Should Follow - Orlando Village

Take a look around, and you’ll almost always see someone with their mobile phone in their hand.

Most students are on social media these days – either Snapchatting their mates, double-tapping on Instagram or laughing out loud at TikTok videos.

Just a few seconds spent flicking between the different apps can lead to minutes (sometimes even hours) of procrastination – not ideal when you’ve got coursework to be getting on with!

But it’s not just about uploading snaps and sharing hilarious memes with your pals. There are plenty of accounts that regularly provide valuable advice and support for uni students.

Here are some of our absolute faves…

1.     The Starving Student (@the.starving.student)

Need something to eat fast, but can’t decide what you fancy?

From vegan-friendly spicy beans with baked sweet potato to sticky chicken drumsticks and homemade lemon cheesecake, you’re sure to take some inspiration from The Starving Student on Insta!

Lauren Leyva regularly shares student-friendly recipes that are not only simple to make in the shared kitchen at your student accommodation, but they’re super affordable too.

2.     Pennies To Pounds (@penniestopoundspod)

If you struggle to manage your money, like most uni students do, it’s worth following Pennies to Pounds on Instagram.

They offer useful tips and tricks to help you make the most of your student loan when it lands in your bank account – preventing you from overspending and living beyond your means.

The information they offer on their podcasts can also come in handy in later life – when you’re looking to get on the property ladder, buy a car or – if you can think that far ahead – prepare for retirement!

3.     Mitch (@mealsbymitch)

Feeling peckish? Even if you’re not, Mitch’s TikTok page is guaranteed to get you licking your lips.

Ranging from classic homemade curries to hearty pasta dishes and fake-aways that are just as good as the real thing, he will show you how to create some of the tastiest plates of food you’ve ever seen.

Whether it be a meal for one or you’re looking to impress your pals, all of the recipes Mitch uses are easy to follow and use super affordable ingredients. What’s not to love?

4.     Sophie Studies (@myhoneststudyblr)

Finding the motivation to revise for exams or make a start on that assignment that’s due at the end of the month can be difficult – especially when all your mates are out having fun.

However, making spider diagrams, reading articles and referring back to your lecture notes can help you to be more productive.

For tips on how to stop procrastinating and study better, give Sophie Studies a follow on the gram.

5.     Robin (@robinrevises)

Whether you’re guilty of leaving revision to the last minute or you’re keen to stay fit and healthy while at uni, you should definitely hit ‘follow’ for this one.

Robin often updates her 47.4k followers with daily posts and reels – offering study tips and suggestions on how to be more productive and boost your mental health.

You’ll also find simple recipes in her highlights, which are perfect for keeping your energy levels up and giving your body and brain the nutrients they need to function.

6.     Student Problems (@studentproblems)

If you’re looking to take your mind off your studies for a while, check out Student Problems on TikTok.

This account offers some of the funniest and most relatable memes on the internet right now – including just a handful of the challenges students face while studying for their degrees.

Although these TikTok videos are guaranteed to boost your mood at any time of the day, you’ll also find plenty of useful tips and advice.

7.     Dr Alex (@dralexgeorge)

Remember Dr Alex from Love Island season 4? Well, he is now an ambassador for Mental Health within the Department for Education.

Though he keeps it real with selfies and fun-loving snaps with his friends, family and puppy, Dr Alex uses his platform to promote mental health and is passionate about raising awareness. Which is especially important when living away from your loved ones.

The TV personality also hosts ‘Stompcast’ which is a podcast that encourages everyone to get out and walk for at least 1 hour a week. He shares links and clips of these on his Insta profile.

8.     Simple Politics (@simplepolitics)

If you want to know what’s going on in the world and the changes that matter the most, open the Instagram app and head to the discover page. From here, search ‘simplepolitics’.

Simple Politics provide clear, accurate and impartial information on the latest news stories. They look closely at the facts and why people hold different opinions.

Aside from offering factual information and updates, this Insta account provides light-hearted and engaging content too.

9.     Student Minds (@studentmindsorg)

When you’re living away from home and staying at student accommodation, you’re bound to have good days and bad days.

With daily inspiration and constant reminders that it’s okay not to be okay, Student Minds is the perfect pick-me-up for when you’re feeling low.

As a UK-based mental health charity, they can help you to seek the support and guidance you need to be a better version of yourself and to achieve everything you’ve always dreamt of.

10.           Study hacks! (@student.life.uk)

With 148.3k followers and nearly 1.9M likes on TikTok, this is certainly one to check out in your spare time.

You’ll discover tips on being more organised at uni, how to ace your exams and improve your essay grades. They also provide recommendations, such as the best websites and apps for students to use, and how to get your hands on loads of free goodies.
