With warmer temperatures and longer days, summer has well and truly arrived in Bolton.
If you’re revising for exams, like most university students, you might not think you have a spare minute to venture out and see what this wonderful town has to offer. But the truth is, it’s good to take a break from it all – clearing your thoughts and rewarding yourself with some well-deserved ‘me time’.
Whilst you’re bound to have a number of things on your to-do list already, here are 3 must-visit attractions to enjoy in Bolton this summer. And the best bit? They’re within easy reach of our student accommodation, here at Orlando Village.
1. Smithills Open Farm
Nestled in the rolling countryside – less than a 15-minute drive from our student accommodation in Bolton – you’ll find Smithills Open Farm.
Ranging from cows and sheep to rabbits and donkeys, as well as meerkats, skunks and Burmese pythons, you’ll get to see and pet a variety of farm animals here. Perfect if you’re studying zoology, ecology or biology, or just the biggest animal lover ever!
Smithills Farm promises a great day out for all the family. With bouncy castles, tractor rides and playgrounds to keep younger siblings entertained, and a choice of food outlets for the grown-ups to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a much-needed catch-up.
There is plenty to see and do at the farm – allowing you to take your mind off your studies for a short while. So why not plan your day trip?
2. Bolton Food & Drink Festival
Whether you’ll be revising on your own at student accommodation or the library with your course-mates, you still need to eat and drink. Luckily for you, Bolton Food and Drink Festival is back at the Town Hall this summer.
With more than 200 stalls offering everything from food and drink to arts and crafts – not to mention plenty of live entertainment – it’s the UK’s biggest festival of its kind.
If you’re quite the foodie, you’ll also get to watch celebrity chefs, including Ainsley Harriot, James Martin and The Hairy Bikers, work their culinary magic right before your eyes. Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to take some inspiration back with you to your student accommodation in Bolton!
The Food and Drink Festival is due to take place in August. We’d hate for you to miss out, so make sure you get your tickets in plenty of time.
3. Queens Park
Need to take a break from your studies but feeling pretty skint? Not to worry, Queens Park is on the doorstep of our Bolton student accommodation, meaning there’s no need to venture far (or spend a fortune!) to get some much-needed fresh air.
Simply wander around the park, soaking up the tranquil atmosphere and enjoy the ornamental gardens whilst getting your daily steps in. Or pack some sandwiches and a couple of freezer blocks to keep your drinks cool, and have a picnic in the park with your housemates. You could even have a kick about afterwards.
Alternatively, if you find going for a jog helps you to destress, there are loads of scenic routes at Queens Park, including nature trails.
What will you do this summer?
These are just 3 of our top picks for the summer – of course, there are various other things you can do, like sitting in the pub beer garden, treating yourself to some retail therapy, or spending days at the beach.
