3 of the best parks to visit in Bolton this summer- Orlando Village

Excited to make the most of the summer once you’ve finished your exams? Got big plans to travel abroad and sip your fave cocktails by the pool whilst topping up your tan?

A vacation is probably just what you need after a hectic year of studying – but with strikes and staff shortages causing airlines to cancel flights and long delays at major airports (including Manchester Airport), you may wish to reconsider.

Luckily for you, there is plenty to see and do in the summer – including cheap and cheerful activities that don’t require you to venture much further than your student accommodation, nor pack a suitcase or queue for hours on end!

For example, if you’re staying at our student accommodation in Bolton, here at Orlando Village, you’ll discover countless country parks on your doorstep. Perfect for enjoying summer picnics, walks and bike rides with good company.

Let’s take a look at 3 of the best parks the town has to offer.

1.    Jumbles Country Park

Fancy a game of tennis or a kick about with your mates? Jumbles Country Park has an extensive range of sports and leisure facilities – including a sailing club and water sports.

If you’re looking to kick back and relax this summer – either on your own or with friends – don’t panic. The park has accessible walking routes, tranquil surroundings and resident wildlife too!

There’s also a lot of picnic tables and grassy areas where you can sit and socialise with your mates, whilst soaking up the sunshine.

Getting to Jumbles Country Park is straightforward. Just pop BL2 4JS in your sat nav and it’ll take you around 20 minutes to drive to.

If you don’t have a car, walk to Bolton Interchange (about a 10 minute walk from our student accommodation in Bolton) and hop on either the 507 bus to Harwood or the 541 towards Toppings. Once you get off the bus, you’ll have to walk a mile or so to reach the park.

2.    Queens Park

After living away from your loved ones for so long, you might be looking forward to spending summer with them – and Queens Park offers something for everyone, including your family pet!

There are several routes to wander in the park, including pathways that are suitable for prams and wheelchairs. If you’ve got younger siblings, there’s a play area with slides and swings, a skatepark and spacious fields that are perfect for playing frisbee.

You could pack a picnic, but there’s a lovely little café in the park where you can treat yourself to refreshments. No matter how old you are, you just can’t beat an ice cream on a hot summer’s day, can you?!

Although there is a free car park beside the playground and café, you can easily walk to Queens Park. It’s just over a mile from our student accommodation on Thynne Street, which is about a 25 minute walk – allowing you to get your daily steps in.

3.    Moses Gate Country Park

With sports fields, multi-use trails, picnic spots and a golf course, Moses Gate Country Park is a popular attraction all year round.

Why not hop on your bike and follow cycle routes, spotting local wildlife as you pedal through the serene woodland? If you’re simply looking to get some fresh air, perch on one of the many stone benches in the park or take a blanket and sit on the grass.

Due to a stressful few months of revision, you might not have had the chance to workout as much as you would have liked. But now is your golden opportunity to don your running shoes and go for a jog around the lake at Moses Gate Country Park.

It’s much quieter (and cooler) in the morning, and you’ll have the rest of the day to do whatever you like – whether it be a trip to the beach or an afternoon in the pub beer garden.

Moses Gate Country Park is situated on Hall Lane in Farnworth, which is approximately 2 miles from our student accommodation in Bolton. It takes less than 10 minutes to get to in the car, 15 minutes via bus and just over half an hour on foot (depending on how quick you walk).

However you choose to spend your summer – whether it be visiting one of the parks mentioned above or something else – enjoy the break!
