Most students are excited to move into our student accommodation in Bolton – eager to meet new people, experience new things and explore new places.

However, when you’ve got lectures to attend, food shopping to do and a social life to lead – all whilst holding down a part-time job – adapting to university life can be difficult.

The good news is, there are lots of useful online resources that can help make student life that little bit easier for you. These offer information, advice and support on everything from how to budget your money and ace your studies, to help maintaining your physical and mental health.

There are so many websites you could visit, but here we’ve compiled a list of 6 of the most helpful (in our opinion):

1.            The Student Room – thestudentroom.co.uk

This is one of the biggest student forums you’ll find on the internet.

With hundreds of discussions – covering everything from studies, careers and entertainment to news, health and relationships – it’s a brilliant way to communicate with like-minded students and get the answers to your burning questions.

2.            Save the Student – savethestudent.org

Are takeaways eating away at your student loan? Struggling to afford the monthly rent? Perhaps your wardrobe needs a refresh but you’re skint?

Save the Student provides free, impartial advice for students – offering helpful tips and tricks on how to make your money stretch further.

Keep an eye out for their weekly roundups to save money and benefit from fantastic student discounts and sales!

3.            Grammarly – grammarly.com

Regardless of what course you’re studying, as part of your degree, you’ll have countless essays to write – not to mention a dissertation or thesis to complete.

Whilst you want to make sure that everything is spelt correctly and free from typos, proofreading can be a laborious task.

Grammarly is a writing assistant that, essentially, proofs your work for free. Any punctuation or grammatical errors will be flagged up so you can correct them before you submit any piece of writing.

4.            Amazon – amazon.co.uk

Ranging from study books to computer hardware, health and beauty products, clothing, gifts and groceries, you’ll find it all on Amazon. And the best bit is, you only have to sign up to Amazon Prime to benefit from unlimited free delivery.

In some cases, you can order products online and have them delivered to your student accommodation in Bolton that very same day! Ideal if you’ve forgotten about your flatmate’s birthday or your laptop charger suddenly stops working when you’ve got an assignment to complete.

5.            Student Beans – studentbeans.com

Fancy a bite to eat with your course-mates after a busy day of lectures? Need some new gym clothing or trainers to help you stick to your New Year’s Resolution of keeping fit? Maybe you need to replace your empty bottle of perfume or aftershave?

With Student Beans, you can get discounts on all your fave brands!

You’ll need to register an account with your student email, but with your free student card/ ID app, you’ll gain access to exclusive discounts for more than 10,000 stores both online and on the high street.

6.            Trainline – thetrainline.com

Whether you’re planning a trip home to see family during the holidays or visiting friends at other universities at the weekend, the cheapest and most convenient way to travel is by train.

The Trainline website (or app if you’ve got it on your phone) allows you to check out routes, train times and prices in just a few clicks.

Whilst travelling during off-peak times will cost you less, it’s also worth noting that the Trainline offers up to 1/3 off ticket prices for anyone with a 16-25 railcard.
