5 summer wardrobe essentials for students - Orlando Village

Looking forward to warmer weather? Got nothing to wear?

Back at home, if you had siblings and were a similar size, you could steal their clothes – meaning you didn’t necessarily have to part with your cash. However, it’s a little different at university.

For one, you probably won’t know your housemates well enough to raid their wardrobes and help yourself to pieces you like. And you’ll more than likely have to go clothes shopping on a shoestring budget.

But don’t panic.

The team of fashionistas at Orlando Village have done the hard work for you. We’ve compiled a list of summer must-haves – including items that can be mixed and matched to create stylish outfits all year round.

1.    Plain white tee

Both simple and easy to style – for boys and girls – the white t-shirt is a staple for the summer months and works with just about anything.

For a comfy yet casual look, team one with your favourite pair of jeans and trainers or, if you’re after a more glamourous look, why not tuck into a maxi skirt and complete your look with a pair of heeled sandals?

The white t-shirt also partners with shorts and sliders, giving you a sporty look. However, it can easily be dressed up with a pair of tailored shorts and a shirt over the top.

2.    Denim jacket

Whilst you can finally ditch the Teddy coats, longline puffer coats and parkas (or put them away for autumn), a denim jacket is an absolute must-have in your summer wardrobe.

Perfect for layering on a chilly morning or breezy evening, it’s sure to provide the finishing touches – regardless of whether you’re wearing a dress, skirt, trousers or shorts.

Available in a variety of colours, cuts and styles (i.e. cropped, oversized), you’re guaranteed to find one that complements your cool outfits this summer without breaking the bank!

3.    Jeans

Going for brunch with the girls? Watching the footie in the beer garden with the lads? Got a birthday night out coming up? You really can’t go wrong with jeans and a nice top.

There are plenty of options on the market – ranging from skinny to bootcut, flared, mom, cropped and ripped. You can wear them with your fave t-shirt, crop top, blouse or shirt for weekly shops, casual days on campus or special occasions. And in the winter, they can be teamed up with a woolly jumper, padded coat, boots, and a hat, scarf and gloves!

Be savvy when shopping for jeans, though. Our best advice is to go somewhere cheap and cheerful, like Primark, and try them on. Alternatively, shop online at ASOS and have them delivered to your student accommodation in Bolton. If they don’t fit or suit you, you can either swap them for a different size or get a refund.

4.    Trainers

Not the biggest fan of flip flops? How about some trendy trainers or pumps – something like a pair of Vans, Converse or Nike Air Force 1?

Admittedly, your feet won’t be as cool because you’ll have socks on, but trainers are the most practical choice of footwear for walking around in all weathers. Plus, you’re less likely to get blisters or burns.

If you want to keep your feet looking fresh this summer, opt for a white pair. If you’re looking to make more of a bold statement, black is perfect as it goes with almost everything. However, you could choose a brightly coloured pair to reflect your personality and inject some colour into your summer wardrobe.

5.    Sunglasses

What better way to finish your stylish summer ensemble than with some shades? From sleek and affordable to designer and chic, there’s a pair to suit every budget.

Finding the best pair of sunnies for your face shape is also easy. If you have a round face, choose rectangular or square sunglasses. These will really help to elongate the face and define your features. For those with square-shaped faces, a pair with round or oval lenses will be best – think aviator glasses.

Although you can buy sunglasses online, it’s much better to shop in-store for this summer accessory. At least this way, you can try them on and look in the mirror before you commit to buying them.

And there you have it – our top 5 basic yet essential pieces to add to your summer wardrobe if you haven’t already got them.
