Moving away to university in September?
Whilst you want to make sure you choose a course you enjoy, or one that will help you to pursue your dream career, you also need to think carefully about where you’ll stay. And more importantly, who you’ll live with.
You have a number of options when it comes to student accommodation – ranging from university-owned halls to private halls and private housing.
Most first-year students opt to stay in uni halls, as it allows them to make new friends and ease their way into living independently. However, privately-rented halls are becoming an increasingly popular option – offering students their own room to study and sleep, plus a host of communal areas which are perfect for socialising.
There are various student accommodation providers all claiming to be the best – but Orlando Village is the only one to be approved and recommended by the University of Bolton, which speaks volumes about the quality of our private halls in the town centre!
Below, we share a few top tips for students thinking about securing a place at our student accommodation in Bolton in September 2022 and onwards.
1. Apply for accommodation early
Student accommodation is generally allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Here at Orlando Village, our purpose-built halls are hugely popular with individuals and groups. Our Bronze and Silver rooms provide all the basic amenities you need whilst living away from your parents and pals back home.
With that said, we’d hate for you to miss out on securing your place. Don’t leave it to the last minute to apply for student accommodation – arrange a viewing as soon as possible and get the pick of the bunch.
We also provide an early bird rate for bookings made in advance, giving you more to spend on nights out, food, study books, clothes, etc.
2. Don’t be put off by a shared bathroom
For many students, finding student accommodation with en-suite facilities is the dealbreaker. However, you’re likely to pay more for a room with an en-suite.
At our student accommodation in Bolton, our Bronze and Silver rooms come with a wash basin and mirror as standard. Not only is this perfect for brushing your teeth in the morning and at bedtime, but it also means you can remove and apply your make-up in your bedroom. There’s no need to join the queue for the bathroom to wash your hands or grab your skincare products, either.
One of the biggest perks of having access to a shared bathroom is that you can create a cleaning rota, and take it in turns to replenish things like hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, etc – so it’s fair.
3. The closer you are to uni, the better
Though you’re likely to have other things on your mind when searching for student accommodation, it’s crucial to consider the location. For example, how far away is the main campus? Where is the nearest shop or bus stop?
Luckily, most halls of residence are situated close to the university – meaning you won’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to make your 9AM lectures or pay bus fare. Instead, you can wake up at a reasonable hour, make yourself a coffee and some breakfast, and walk.
Our student accommodation in Bolton is no more than a 10-minute walk from the town centre. Local supermarkets, including Aldi, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s, are only a stone’s throw away, and you needn’t venture far to reach the bus and railway station.
