Navigating Mental Wellness: A Practical Guide for you

News

Hey everyone! Let’s delve into something seriously important – mental health. No frills, just straight talk about keeping our heads in the game and supporting our mates. Life’s a bit of a rollercoaster, so let’s get real about the ups and downs.

Mental health is like a maze. Sometimes, we’re cruising; other times, it’s a bit of a mess. Always remember though, it’s totally normal to feel a bit lost or off-kilter from time to time.

Dealing with Your Own Mental Quest

  1. Check Yourself: Take a moment to check in with your feelings. What’s bugging you? What’s making you happy? Understanding your vibe is key to keeping things in balance.
  2. Lean on Your Crew: When life throws curveballs, hit up your friends or family. They’ve got your back. Sharing the load is like the ultimate power move. Our staff in the Lodge at Orlando Village Student Accommodation are alwasy here for a freindly chat, pop in for a cup of tea any time, we might even have some biscuits 🙂
  3. Fuel Up Right: Treat your brain as well as your body. Eat decent food, get some exercise, and make sure you have quality sleep. It’s like giving your mind a protein shake – and does wonders for your mood.
  4. Chill Techniques: No need for mystic chants. Try simple stuff like deep breathing or a quick meditation sesh. It’s like hitting pause on the chaos and resetting your brain. There is a great app called HeadSpace with daily meditation check in’s to help you feel focused, relaxed and recharged.

Supporting Your Friends When You Think They Might Need Support

  1. Heart-to-Heart Convos: Make your circle a safe space. Let everyone speak about their mental state without judgment. Share your stories – you’re all in this together.
  2. Learn the Basics: Mental health doesn’t need to be confusing. Know the basics so you can understand what your friends might be going through. No PhD required – just some common sense. A great website for support is https://www.youngminds.org.uk/
  3. Ace Listener: Be the friend who listens without giving a lecture. Sometimes, people just need to vent. Be that friend – it’s worth its weight in gold.
  4. Random Acts of Coolness: Boost your friends with some low-key awesomeness. Send a funny meme, leave a sweet note, or plan a surprise hangout. Small gestures, big vibes.
  5. Pro Tip – Suggesting Pro Help: If things get seriously rough for a friend, gently suggest they talk to a pro. Therapists are like the Avengers of mental health – they know their stuff.

Life’s a rollercoaster, and mental health is just part of the ride. Keep it real, stay connected, give your friends a hand when they need it, and don’t forget to join us for  the mindful meditation event every first Monday in the cinema room. Let’s ditch the stigma, talk openly, and make sure everyone knows that mental wellness is a non-negotiable part of life.
